Created by Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, "Gypsy" opened on Broadway in 1960 starring Ethel Merman in the title role. The story follows an ambitious mother, Rose, dreaming of vaudeville stardom for one of her two daughters. She pours her passion for the stage into the crazy music routines that she creates for June, her "little star."
But, the year is 1923 and vaudeville is dying. As the grand theatres begin to fade into the shabby shadow of the Burlesque Houses, Rose's relationship with June sours.
After June leaves, Rose must shift her dreams and ambition to Louise: the daughter "without the talent." But, there are surprises in store for both mother and daughter as they discover Louise's gifts, her growing stardom, and the most unexpected discovery of all -- each other.
Using some of the best music of the American Musical Theater, including Everything's Coming Up Roses, Let Me Entertain You and the haunting finale, My Turn, this production will be a flood of excitement, laughs, and tears for the whole family.
