Synopsis: Shakespeare comedy; On the Eve of Duke Theseus’ nuptials to Hippolyta, two pairs of lovers (Demetrius and Hermia, Helena and Lysander) find themselves in the woods of Athens, a place controlled by Oberon and Titania and their band of fairies. The lovers have spells cast upon them by the fairy Puck and complications ensue. Meanwhile, a well-meaning but oafish group of “rude mechanicals” (blue collar laborers) rehearse a play to perform at the Duke’s reception, with hilarious results. Their leader, Nick Bottom, has a spell cast on him, and he finds himself with the head of an ass, and in love with Titania, the head of the fairies. In the end, all are brought together in a hilarious final scene.
Needed: Minimum SIX men and SIX women (several roles, including the fairies and mechanicals may be interchangeable.
