The following are LTFR’s Gypsy Robe Recipients:

The Gypsy Robe is a tradition on Broadway that is presented on Opening Night. It is a smock adorned with mementos from past performances and now acts as a piece of living history. It is named for members of the chorus, or “gypsies,” who move from show to show. The ritual of passing along of the Gypsy Robe from one show to another started on Broadway in 1959 by Bill Bradley, a chorus member in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. He thought it would be a fun way to curb jitters, act as a good luck charm, and honor an actor in the chorus. A few Gypsy Robes are on display at the Smithsonian Institute, the New York City Museum, and the Library at the Lincoln Center. The Little Theatre of Fall River adopted the Gypsy Robe custom in 2005. We have faithfully followed the Gypsy Robe guidelines and passed the robe along from one LTFR member to another on Opening Nights with the secret ceremony intact. We hope you will take a look at our Gypsy Robe on display near the lobby ticket area.
